TV Shows

Madonna and I watch a fair number of TV shows regularly.

It seems just about every show we enjoy is “on the bubble” every year.

I’m posting this because hopefully google will pick it up and the powers that be will see more positive feedback for the shows we watch and enjoy.

Bring ‘em Back!

#1 Life.

Cop drama.  This is a genre explored almost endlessly on TV.  In my opinion the best cop drama hands down is The Wire.  Unfortunately The Wire is over and the only thing that can bring comfort is DVD’s and shows like Life.  I’ll watch just about anything with Damian Lewis in it.  The bonus with Life is that the show is wonderful.  This show should be on Monday night after Chuck and Heroes.   Put it there - don’t move it around anymore (I’m looking at you NBC.)  and let it ride.   Less new shows that will only last 12 episodes (I *loved* Journeyman!) and stick with shows that just need a little help finding more audience.

#2 Chuck.

Despite this shows ‘Scarecrow and Ms. King’ silly premise, this show has a flawless execution.  Every single episode entertains with a polish and shine that just keeps us coming back.  The jokes are hilarious.  The cast is perfect.  Everything works.  I hope this show survives as this season it was imeasurably better than it’s slot-mate Heroes.   As an example the Chuck finale for season 2 blew the Heroes Season 3 finale out of the water in terms of entertainment and viewer satisfaction.

Bring it back!

#3 Dollhouse.

It stumbled early in terms of story (American Idol epside) but has been steady and entertaining.   I won’t be heartbroken if this show gets cancelled but that is mostly because I never expected it to last.  Fox has the credibility of Darryl Gates after the LA Riots when it comes to sticking with the shows they put on the air.  Their crimes are too numerous and painful to relive here.  The future is nearly here.. and that is digital/internet publishing.  Before long you will not have to depend on mega-media-conglomerates to provide you with quality entertainment to throw onto your massive flat-panel TV.  When that day comes we as consumers will win.  Until then we have to suffer through poor executive decisions that have more to do with maximizing the amount of cash available for doing lines of coke off hooker’s ass than providing quality entertainment to viewers.

If Dollhouse survives I will be pleasantly surprised and my family will be watching every week.

Shows that we watch every week but won’t mind losing?

Let ‘em Go!

#1 Reaper.

We have watched this show from the beginning.  It has only matured and improved in execution as the episodes unfold.  This season has had some of the most impressive episodes so far.  Funny and enjoyable.   As much as we enjoy it we feel that the premise has been explored well enough that we are not longing for more.  It exists and we enjoyed it.  Thanks for giving this show a second season WB!  Dollhouse, Chuck, and Life deserve the same.

#2 Castle.

We love Nathan Fillion.  He is a master of comedic performance.  On-Screen magic.  The female lead on this show is very uncomfortable to watch.  They should have taken a lesson from Life.  In the second season of Life they softened the character of Dani Reese.  She was more likable and just less “angry” all of the time.  I enjoy watching Michael Chiklis run around being angry all the time as Vick Mackey.. but it just doesn’t work so well in the “Procedural Cop Show” genre with a pretty girl.  Challenging the social norms of dominate males and docile women is not shocking anymore.  I would like to think that we can appreciate characters that are as dynamic as real people are.  If we approached work in any field constantly angry, bitter, and ultimately unapproachable we would rarely if ever see any success.  Noone wants to work with a bitter sour puss.

The bottom line is that we enjoy Castle despite it’s stumbles and recognize that they could fine tune it and bring it back even stronger.. but I would much rather see shows like Life, Chuck, or Dollhouse come back.

#3 Heroes.

Heroes has never managed to recapture the magic of the first season.  We continue watching in hope that it will pick up.  There have been some fun episodes among the numerous duds.  I wouldn’t be torn up over this show going away and pretending seasons 2 and 3 never happened.  I realize this show has some international cachet that keeps it afloat.  I would trade the budget for Heroes to keep Chuck and Life in a heartbeat.

The way it stands right now just about every show we watch is probably going to be cancelled and replaced with horrible reality TV shows.  When this happens we will simply stop watching TV alltogether unless there is a Seahawks game on.  I wouldn’t be surprised if that is the case for many people in my age group.

Bring back Chuck and Life!  Dollhouse would be a nice bonus.

Like an phoenix from the ashes..

I blew my blog up.  Somewhat intentionally and somewhat unintentionally.  I will admit I found the experience cathartic.  No longer will it be a catalogue of bad decsisions and broken promises.   I get to start anew and make all-new bad decisions and promises.
